Antoinette's compensation brunch - A disappointment once again. But well, at least no flies

To continue from the last update....So Rae, the marcom manager from Antoinette extended an invite for a complimentary meal to compensate for my last unpleasant experience. Let bygones be bygones. Since Antoinette, represented by Rae, has expressed his/their sincere apologies, I will not mention this incident again. This will just be a usual and as always, 100% honest review from me. Rae suggested this outlet at Palais Renaissance so we followed.

It was decorated beautifully, adorned with classy ceilings and walls, chandeliers with splendor, opulent furnitures. Indoors were perfectly quiet so it was the perfect ambiance to b*tch. It wasnt dim but was hardly bright. Therefore all pictures were dark, grainy or blur and casted with an ugly orange hue. Regretted not taking pictures with flash for I hate grainy/blur pictures. I spent quite some time editing the above pic to be true to real life, despite so, it's still grainy. Arrgggghhh! Time to ditch my 3 year old Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5.

The macro shots in fact turned out okay. Ironically, the food looked better in pictures than tasted in reality. Actually we love breakfast food like Eggs Benedicts. But my last gruesome experience really freaked all of us out so much so we shunned from ordering them.

If you know me, you know I love foie gras. The pan fried foie gras(top right), labelled as a starter shocked me with it's...look. It's the first time I see a foie gras which look so much like fried luncheon meat. HAHA. This is not a compliment. (=.=)''''' Unappetizing. It looked as though sometime used paper to blot out the oil of the foie gras. And it looks as appetizing as some bbq chicken wings with oil sucked right out with paper before serving it to you.

Healthier. But sad lor. Thanks for looking out for my cholesterol level. How did the guys at Antoinette know my cholesterol level was lingering near the limits? :P But...*shaking head*.....as a customer wise, I'm very sad when my foie gras look like that. It tasted better than fried luncheon meat though.

Crabmeat pasta. Middle pic. Again. I really wonder did the chef had a bad day? Why all the dishes were so poorly presented? Too oily. Saw the excessive amount of oil on the plate? To be frank, despite it's a complimentary meal for compensation, we girls, or rather, Lin and me were very careful in ordering. We wanted to make sure we can finish the food we order and even when the dishes werent nice, we tried to finish it because we didnt want to waste food even though we need not pay for them. We were very grateful for food or just anything on our plates. But really, the crab pasta wont do. It was so oily that both Lin and me felt kinda unwell taking it. And it's our regret we left half of it.

Ordered mushroom soup to share. It was not bad though I still prefer BakerzIn's wild mushroom soup.

The crepes. Lin's order. My nice girl tried so hard to finish it despite it's not nice. The bananas were overcooked, burnt actually and the meringue werent freshly made and tasted stale; sticked to the teeth(just like the ones Jes ordered too, top left pic). Lin, who isnt one to be picky with food like me, said this dessert was really pretty bad. Jes and me actually forbid her to finish it; because she didnt want to waste food despite it's kinda sucky.

Amongst all these cakes, only the Strawberry Shortcake and Antoinette Cake(top left) were nice. I'm actually quite astounded that they served a crazily skewed Strawberry Shortcake which was teetering on collapsing, to me. I've never seen such a poorly presented cake before in my ENTIRE LIFE; it was leaning so conspicuously that it's a rarer sight to behold than the leaning tower of Pisa. Maybe the straw berry was too heavy? HAHAHA. It's a joke. The presentation aside, the cake was wonderfully light and fluffy with a refreshing fragrance of strawberries. I like the cream too. I'm not into fresh strawberries too so I didnt eat them(haha) but Jes who took a bite of the strawberry had her face shrivelled into a prune; it was that sour. Lol.

The Antoinette cake didnt have a full and robust bubble of it's raspberry coulis like the one RERG had. I poked the stupid bubble for half a day and only half a teaspoon of sauce came out. ZzzZzz. But the cake was not bad, to me, because it wasnt too sweet. However, despite sharing with Jes, we only managed to finish half.......somehow we just got sick of the taste midway. But I do admit, I'm not one with a sweet tooth. Jes dont like it's middle because it was bitter.

Oh to be fair, I didnt try the cake on the middle right so I cant comment whether it's nice or not. Jes and Lin finished it so I assumed it's nice. However, the top right cake(I called it the polka-dot cake) was a nightmare to me. I really cant take the taste and I puked the cake right out because I was unable to stomach it. It's a-u-t-o-m-a-t-i-c(Kelly Chen's song. Hee). Jes's reaction was less violent but she maybe took 1 or 2 bites? Ha. Lin was the only 1 who liked the cake. The bottom right cake was dry and tasted stale. Not worth me checking out their names.

Chef, did you reallllllyyyyyy had such a bad day??? That you actually served meringue to us like this~ Is it even so much hard work to present the meringue on it's right side.......

We had 5 pots of different teas from 2.30pm to 7.30pm. But since none of which impressed us and to stop the bill from growing, we requested them to refill with hot water instead just to keep our throat moist with our endless chatter.

I'm neither pleased nor unhappy with the service. We're completely alone indoors and maybe they're giving us the privacy so there's no service staff indoors. For the first few times, we politely stepped out to order our stuff and such but as the hours advanced, we simply shouted out. Sorry, we just want to continue our b*tching convo and dont wish to stop halfway again and again. Service was sub-standard too. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, all the staff send me odd looks, much to my uneasiness. And Edwin, the manager who was supposedly in charged to host me seemed to only extend his excellent service to me and me only. I was quite shocked that he inquired whether to serve me iced or warm water but promptly took his leave with my answer and totally disregarding Lin's preference. He assumed Lin wanted iced water as well.

This is just blatant proof that Antoinette simply wished to let the garbage fly in food incident die down with my acceptance but showing no sincerity whether in terms of service(to my friends) or presentation and quality of it's food and desserts. I can understand if a chef has a bad day and cooks less-than-excellent food but I cant accept a chef who presents his dishes in a shabby way(pasta and meringue) as if he's feeding his dog nor a manager who serves me a cake(the Strawberry Shortcake) which is crazily tilted at a 45degrees angle, as if it's collapsing anytime. I also cant accept a manager who gives me good service just because they wanna save their reputation but choose to give inconsistent service to my friends, whom he thinks doesnt matter.

Very disappointing. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm just suay. But twice, is really enough. I should thank god there's no cockroach or flies this time round. Amen. Weirdly, I got nauseous that night again. I simply dont know why. Maybe I shouldnt have went back at all. I should have extended this invite to anyone else other than me and my friends. Perhaps they will have a better experience?

Well, I feel Antoinette is being reasonable about all this but I do not think I should feel hopelessly grateful nor feel embarrassed on accepting the meal; like how some people may feel. I dont feel superior nor happy just because we got a complimentary meal; I dont believe one should go for the throat just because someone else genuinely made a mistake(in serving that fly). HOWEVER, I was pissed because the staff and especially the manager Zul wasnt emphatic and sincere in his attitude and apology for my situation. You understand where I'm getting? Like I said in my email reply, IF ONLY he and his staff had been emphatic about the whole situation, frankly speaking, I will just count myself unlucky and let it all pass, despite all the diarrhoea and nausea stuff. It's precisely because my friends and I were all treated poorly, coupled with my discomfort after the incident, that Lin felt righteous about it and thus commented on their facebook; which lead us here.

I'm so grateful for such a friend who stand up for me. Very very grateful. Smuacks!!!

Excellent food are of course a must in our criteria. But if the food is not even nice and the management is unprofessional with poor attitude, I dont see why should we patronize them again. Antoinette wont just collapse with just 1 review of mine. Similarly, I wont die because I wont get to taste their food/cakes again. We simply wont cross road again.

By the way, I gotten myself a new camera!!

SONY DSC-HX10V in white

No more blurry and grainy pictures in dim lightings or at night!!
Will do a review soon! This camera is pretty awesome!!
Any decent camera can take wonderful pictures in the day,
but the real test comes during the night!

(P/S Antoinette compensated me for my medical bills and transportation with a cheque of S$64.80)

Movie review: Snitch & Helter Skelter

Movie title: Snitch
Ratings: 4/5
Comments: It's quite thrilling and is actually a touching show where the father moves heaven and earth just to save his child. However, it's funny that in almost all the touching scenes, Johnson's eyes were as dry as a dessert. Lol. I wonder if he has any kids of his own. I think everyone in the movie acts better than him. Lol. Still a nice show though.

Movie title: Helter Skelter (R21)
Ratings: 3/5
Comments: The production designer(美术指导) of the show was awesome! Whoever he or she is, worked perfectly together with the special/visual effects manager and brought out the the brilliance and myriad enchanting sensual pleasure. The settings of every scene was so beautiful and apt.....like the dream of every girl.....fur, mink, pink, pearls, blingbling, ribbons, leopard prints etc. And the female lead acted real well. But the plot is very weak so we did see many people leaving halfway through the show. Some loud and angry music used during the show was kinda hard to bear and I guess most Singaporeans cant really accept some of the the very.....ahh.....kinky scenes. But well, it's just a show. Some parts were kinda funny to me and I giggled like a school girl. Oh well, I'm just so innocent. Wahahahaha!

Still, I think this is one show which you should catch, because it's like nothing you ever watch before. Eye-opener. HAHA!

Movie reivew: Side Effects

Movie title: Side Effects
Ratings: 3.8/5
Comments: We kinda expected it to be something like "Limitless", starring Bradley Cooper, a thrilling show with a story revolving around an amazing drug. But it's not. Movie has a slow start. Sweet twist in the story and gets more entrancing towards the end. Worth a catch.

Review: Princess and 7 kungfu masters (笑功震武林)

Movie title: Princess and 7 kungfu masters (笑功震武林)
Ratings: 4.5/5

Comments: HK has been famous with their action films but it has been a long time since I caught an action film that good other than Ip Man. A wide array of weapons like sword, knife, axe, clubs, daggers, hidden weapon(暗器), 棍 etc were being used and I also enjoyed the traditional fist fights among the veteran actors like Sammo Hung and 元华. The introduction of some new blood like 伍允龙 Philip Ng(starred 洛天) and 蒋璐霞 (starred 洪凤, used the chain-like weapon) who fight really well, are very refreshing too. I realized there are many newbies who are popular look-alikes in this show; like Rainie Yang, Linda Chung, Donnie Yen, and I think there was even 1 guy who looked like Andy Lau(dearie and I exclaimed at the same time. Haha). Funny and engaging action flick which you shouldnt miss. But pretty violent, not recommended to bring kids along.

I'm pretty...intrigued or you can say...fascinated with both 伍允龙 Philip Ng and 蒋璐霞. A little gossip here; Philip is Linda Chung's(鍾嘉欣) boyfriend and it is common knowledge that Raymond Lam was once hot on her heels but was rejected again and again. It's mind boggling that despite Raymond's good looks, fame and wealth, he wasnt able to move Linda. Instead, Philip did. So it's either something is very wrong with Raymond, or else Philip is amazing. Lol. It's also not the first time I seen 蒋璐霞 fights and manz, this lass packs a punch! I saw how she fought in 僵尸新战士(Vampire Warriors) alongside 元华周秀娜钱小豪 and seriously I've never been so entranced with a female who fights that charmingly and suavely. 真是太帅了! Just like my dear Jet Li. Heez! I wish she has more movies. It's time female action stars make it big!! Time for someone to take over Michelle Yeoh.

And damn funny lor, in the beginning of the show, a very familiar voice was dubbed; Stephen Chow!! Ahh.......kinda missed his comedies. Hmm.......if he's the 搞笑之王,then Sandra Ng is the 搞笑之后. I bet one can never imagine she can be or remain that popular after so long; in fact, no female has actually taken her place. She's still the queen of comedies. While I'll say, Ronald Cheng and Wong Cho Lam had slowly ventured onto Stephen Chow's path.

(P.S Went for Antoinette's compensation lunch for the garbage-fly-in-food incident. Will blog soon.)

Really so busy lately.

Do you believe mermaids exist?

Cruised by a link and found it to be extremely intriguing.

Mermaids; the body found (pause right in the beginning and leave it to load for an hr or so before playing)

However, it's kinda disappointing that the videos/pictures/sightings were not clear or concrete. But they did share some so-called evidence that mermaids do exists; Like for example; paintings or drawings of mermaids had been shared all over the world at around the same time; ancient times where planes haven been invented, only to be discovered decades or centuries later. The spears pierced in the fleshes of sharks or whales. Who could have used them? Hmm...yes I cant quite imagine any marine species who can hold or throw a spear. LOL. Maybe the octopus? But I dont think they know how to make spears!! And supporting the fact that we humans evolved from apes, limbs can magically disappear when you dont use them(snakes used to have legs, dont you know), and living things can gradually reform and regenerate as means of survival and adaption................

Maybe it's possible that mermaids do exists.

Hmmm..........but even if they do..........I believed they're already extinct. Anyway, speaking of mermaids, here's a reminiscence of a HongKong movie which I like very much. I was..........maybe in secondary school then? Lol. It has been so long. Romantic and funny, by Ekin ChengChristy Chung and Takeshi Kaneshiro(金城武). I love Christy. I missed her movies.

Loved the 2 theme songs, 天空 and 天使 by Faye Wong. =)

Starfish.........stars of the sea.

File:Flickr-2884079538-original.jpg

Do you know that starfish has no brain?

Instead, they have a kind of nervous(holy shit, for awhile, forgot how to spell "nervous") system below their skin which helps them to detect light, touch and temperature of water around them. These in turn guide them to orientate around in the waters. They have no blood nor head. But they do have a mouth located at their "belly", underneath the upper surface. Their eyes located at the end of each arm. If any arm gets cut off, it's capable of regenerating on it's own! Some species can even regenerate into a whole new starfish from a severed limb. They breed the same way as fishes do but despite their name, Starfish, they're not fish; They're termed echinoderm, the same family as sea urchins. Starfishes are edible(by humans). Simply break it by bending 2 opposite arms upwards(the bottom splits apart in a star shape too) and digging out it's interior flesh. Looks veryyyyy gross. But I've never eaten before. =P However, I did hold them before in my hand when I was young. They're extremely rough on the outer surface. With dozens of tiny tube feet pinching my hand gently. Lol so cute.

Next time if you feel like scolding someone "You're such a brainless idiot!!", try saying "What a Star fish you are! OR "You're such a Sea Star(another name for Starfish) with a smile. =) Somehow, you'll sound more polite. LOL.

I've always been very fascinated with marine life. I believe they're the most gorgeous species on earth with their vibrant colours, out-of-the-world forms, amazing camouflaging and preying capabilities. I just hate myself for been so aqua-phobic as I nearly drowned when I was 10. How I envy some of my friends who are divers, who can dive deep down into the sea paradise and get to see them, touch them, feel them. I think I can only rely on pictures, videos, visit aquariums or take submarines(took a mini one in U.S Universal Studios before) to replicate those sightings and feelings.

Lol. This starfish just "looks" so happy!!

Be happy everybody! =)

Review of movie: Warm Bodies

Movie title: Warm Bodies
Ratings: 3.8/5
Comments: It's kinda funny! Started off kinda slowly and got better. Generally I think girls will enjoy this show more than the guys because the zombie, R, is so cute in the show. Haha~ However, it's not like the kind of suspense and thrilling zombie shows like Resident Evil. It's sweet, pure, young love. =)

Most of the time, I prefer to catch movies with dearie in town because I feel......maybe there are more younger crowd in town theaters ...so there is more sense of humor within the theater and more people laugh with you. It's infectious and somehow make every movie more interesting. Frankly speaking, sometimes we're super lazy to purposely travel to town too. But because neighbourhood theaters' latest slots always stop at 9+pm, sometimes we cant catch in time.

SO I'm super happy now that Cathay has taken over Eng Wah at Westmall(the aunties who tear the tickets were super rude!) and now they have late night slots at 11+pm EVERYDAY!! Hooray to Westerners and Northerners night owls!!! Not to mention Cathay has the cheapest tickets(with credit card discounts) among all the other cinemas. The difference can be like S$3 for a pair and for couples like us who can watch 2-3 movies in a week, 10 movies will be like S$30.

Initially I was kinda worried there is no crowd(no fun catching movie with another 2 people only). But was quite surprised it was quite crowded when we caught our last last movie, "Ghost Child." It was like half full on a weekday 11+pm slot. Pretty thankful that we dont have to leave the theater in few numbers....the last 10minutes kinda scary. =P

Review of 搵到食 @ 126 Sims Avenue

I'm loving my new blogskin. =)

Yesterday, dearie brought me for supper. I'm a dimsum lover and it has been ages since I wanna try out 搵到食 a 24hours dimsum hawker at 126 Sims Avenue(near geylang). The shop name 搵到食(cantonese) sounds like the address itself in English; 126. Cute.

The place itself was very crowded and thus cramped...located next to the road and drains... Just heed my advice...keep your head up.... I looked down once and saw 2 cockroaches roaming about. Kinda doused my appetite. Carpark lots were scarce too and we parked pretty far; 10minutes walk. To me 10minutes is far okie. =P

(Clockwise) Prawn Chee Cheong Fan/fried prawn roll/
Sugar Cane w/lemon/Scallop porridge/fried chicken wings

Well, if you're comparing with Crystal Jade or Asian Grand Restaurant, the 2 giants who are famous for dimsum....then of course they're not comparable. But for the pricing, they're okay. I love the scallop porridge the most. Although not alot of flavour, the S$4.50 porridge was packed full of fresh scallop chunks. Dearie liked it very much. The fried prawn roll(S$4) is just a tad oily, so much so mayo dont even stay when I tried to dip it because it was just too oily. The prawn chee cheong fan(S$3.50) was a disappointment because I have much nicer ones elsewhere. The chicken wings was very weird. It was crispy on the outside and tender within. Smells fragrant too but there was also a stench coming from it. And no wonder. It's not until I reached the inside of the chicken wings then I realized it's bloody inside(near the bones). I do know some chicken wings tend to have little blood near the bones but it wasnt little. It was quite bloody. We're not super fussy with our food so we both finished everything, with only me leaving out the bloody parts.

The next morning, dearie suffered diarrhoea twice and stomach pain, much like the ones we experienced in BKK. "But it's milder." Dearie said. So he went to see the doctor and doctor said it's food poisoning. Sigh......poor honey. I'm cooking porridge for him tonight.

Seriously...is it so difficult to have a proper and hygienic meal outside.......

Anyway, as a final verdict, apart from the bloody interior of the chicken wings, I will say 搵到食 is worth a visit if we're around the area or when everything else is not available. But it's not worth a special trip down from far...with the tough parking of cars etc.....zzz.

Me My Elos(version 1) IPL Review

During our feb BKK trip, I was mostly decked in shorts because I'm terribly afraid of heat. There was once when we were seated at the small lounge area of Budacco Hotel and Lyn suddenly ran her hand through my thigh and then drifted down to my lower legs. Lol. It sounded pretty kinky but I can assure we're both straight. She merely remarked that it feels smooth to the touch and asked me whether I wax. I said I dont but I do shave occasionally. She was surprised because shaving usually cause unsightly and rough bumps. I then said, that's probably because I always do scrubs before I shave and I seldom need to shave my legs now because of me.my.elos. =) Less shaving naturally means less friction with your skin and definitely means smoother legs. Of course, moisturizing your legs is a must if you sleep in air-conditioned rooms.

It has been around 2.5months since I've started using me.my.elos. As you can see, the cartridge capacity lighting is flashing at "empty" which means there's around 5% left. It's due time that I do a review and I must say I'm very pleased with the results.

Background info

I actually spent some time on researching info and reviews before making any decision. Unfortunately, there arent many reviews online. And the few reviews online arent very concrete. I did try out the real thing at Clariancy at Jurong Point. It's very easy to use and saves time for big areas like legs because you can "roll" over instead of zapping all the way. Of course I cant expect results with just 1 try. Eventually, I decided to go ahead after reading info online and doing some cost calculations on my own. However, before I can buy it admist the very busy Dec where I was swamped with work, dearie bought it for me as a Christmas present!!! Love you honey!! Smuacks!! You know...actually all this...is all for you. Wahahaha!

Since this is a review, I will not dwell too much on the specifications of the model as it's all in the links. me.my.elos(version 1) is only suitable for light to tan skinned people with dark hair. They're not for dark people or light hair. It can only be used from the face down. I.e, anywhere except the face. For a super basic info, me.my.elos uses the combination of 2 technology, namely the IPL(Intense pulse light) and RF(Radio frequency). There are actually other kinds of technology for hair removal, like VPL(variable pulse light), laser etc and I read that RF is a newer type of technology compared to IPL, which was the more common one with no downtime.

I have experience with IPL as I did my underarms with a salon quite some time back. And although I seldom need to shave anymore, I'm afraid it will come back as it wasnt totally gone . I was informed by a very honest professional that in actual fact, IPL does not promise permanent hair removal like all advertisements do, more like permanent hair reduction. I guess it varies with people. Some people need to wear their teeth retainers for all their life while some enjoys straight teeth forever after braces. It's kinda hard to say. You should know that with frequent shaving, hair will turn coarser and everything will just go back to square 1. Therefore, I wish to use me.my.elos as a kind of maintenance for my underarms and to significantly reduce the need for shaving my lower legs too. I have dark hair, as for skin tone...actually I dont feel I'm fair because I have much fairer friends like Lin, Jes, Gra, Li......but somehow many friends always comment that I'm fair (=.=)'''''...so I guess I'm slightly fairer than the usual skin tone bah.

My Review:
Firstly, I need to say not all info from the sales assistant is correct. She said, when the cartridge is 100% full, you can only use low to medium mode and only when the cartridge is 50% full or below, then you can use high mode. That's not true. I did start out with low mode because I wasnt sure how my skin is going to react. It's like a luke warm feeling with the device flashing very brightly like camera flashes and doesnt cause any discomfort. So for my 2nd try, I used medium. It was slightly warmer but I'm totally fine with it. So I tried high for the 3rd time. Increasingly hot but bearable. I "rolled" it for my legs but use the "zapping" method(like tapping) for my kneecaps and underarms because these areas are not easy to roll over.

I will say there wasnt any significant results for the first multiple sessions. The need for shaving is the same frequency. It wasnt until...say...until the 12th session that I see significant results for my legs. The frequency for shaving reduced significantly, which also means the frequency for using me.my.elos also dropped. Now, for underarms, I think I shave like....once every 2 months? For legs, maybe once every 3-4weeks? Hairs also became very fine, soft and light(colour) instead of coarse and dark. Even if the legs arent really hair-free, they're nice to touch(and see, haha) because the hair are so fine and light(colour) that they're not really visible.

There is no downtime or side effect although using "high" mode sometimes might cause some redness on my fair skin. But it doesnt hurt and will go away after awhile. There's no need to apply anything(that's for me).

There are reviews which said me.my.elos isnt effective. Other than results vary with different people, I must say, I do wonder if they are using it correctly and efficiently. It's pretty effective for me so here are some of my tips: (which works for me). I do not guarantee it works the same for everyone.

My Tips for using me.my.elos
1) Do not epilate. I dont understand why they sell the epilator cartridge together with the device when long time ago, I was told not to wax/epilate prior to doing IPL because IPL needs to destroy the hair follicles/roots. When you epilate or wax, the whole root was removed thus the IPL/RF wouldnt have worked.

2) Always shave prior to using me.my.elos. with a sharp razor. And prior to your shave, always have warm shower and do a scrub so that pores open for smooth shave. After shaving, drench with cold water to close back the pores. For me, I always shower, then scrub, then shave, then use me.my.elos. Without fail.

3) Be consistent.
I took a longer time and more money than needed to do IPL for my underarms because I was kinda lazy to travel to town on some days. And when hair grown back without the consistent IPL treatments, again, you need to start from square 1 again. So really, you have no excuse to be lazy when the device is right at home. Whenever I need to shave, like maybe a 2mm growth, I will do the whole procedure of shower-scrub-shave-me.my.elos. Please dont let your hair grow to 0.5cm or 1cm then you shave hor, it's like back to square 1.

4) Use a mirror if you're doing your underarms, so that you can see clearly. Use the "tapping" method. It's okay to go over the same spot twice but not more. 宁杀错,不放过. Do not miss out any area.

5) For areas like hands and legs, you will use the "rolling" method but be sure to roll s l o w l y. I heard  some people reviewed that the results are kinda patchy and my guess is they roll too fast and not all areas were being zapped properly. You'll use more flashes definitely, but would you rather use more flashes to have an even result OR have patchy areas where some area have hair growing out faster and some area with no hair? And even if you roll very slowly, be sure not to linger over a spot too long or you'll burnt your skin.

6) Try your best to make sure the device lies flat on your skin; 100% contact, to ensure maximum efficiency. It might be difficult for some corners, if so, use the "zapping" method. Avoid moles(dark in colour) on your skin if any. I have 1 on my hand and it hurts when I zapped it.

7) Use only after every shaving occasion and not as and when you're free. Because it wont be effective and too much of it will cause your skin to tan. You dont wish to have dark armpits, do you?

8) Try to work out the best way to maneuver your me.my.elos along areas which are hard to reach, for e.g, your outer upper arm. When you're at ease, naturally, the more efficient you are.

9) It's of vital importance that your skin is not very dry when you use me.my.elos. Yes, we CANT apply anything prior to using it, so it's very important that you use a very moisturizing shower foam, a good but gentle scrub and moisturizing shave gel. Because when your skin is too dry, you'll experience some discomfort and minimal pain when using me.my.elos. Ultimately, it's harsh light flashing on your skin. Keep your skin  moisturized by apply moisturizers at night(not right after). For my favorite shower foams and moisturizers, you can view my monthly favorites or anything under beauty.

10) Do not follow the recommended frequency of use blindly as set out in the guide because everyone is different. The manual said me.my.elos is to be used once every 2-3 weeks. BUT I used it everytime right after my shaving session. Which started as twice a week and gradually decreases to once a week, once a fortnight or once every 3 weeks etc.

The sales also said things like use "low" mode for the first 5 sessions and then increase to "medium" and then to "high" after Xth week etc etc. Nahz~ It depends on which area you're doing and how long have you been doing the area. For example on bikini areas, since it's very sensitive and the skin there is very thin, naturally you should use "low" or "medium". But for areas which you have been treating for quite some time, hair must have become very fine, so you can use "high". Always monitor and do your own adjustments.

The last time I know, me.my.elos(version 1) costs around S$1000 in Singapore at Clariancy. I think it's cheaper now since version 2 is out(can use on face). It's definitely very cost effective especially if you have large areas to do and so far, I have no regrets. Even though I'm not the one who bought it(Oh I love you my dearest hubby!), I will say it's a very very worthy investment. By the way, per cartridge is S$120. And hopefully they can bring the price down. Hope you find this review useful. \(^o^)/ As hair removal is such a sensitive topic, any questions you can drop me an email at fionlim89(at)gmail.com and I will try my best to answer. I wont reply if a sensitive question is dropped here(if insensitive, I will reply here) or simply any questions from people who demands me to email them my replies. How presumptuous. I'm not selling anything, merely sharing.

老江一品粿条汤 L J Superior Kway Teow Soup (Bt Timah Branch)

If you love the famous abalone noodle soup in JB(I'm not sure exact address, friends bring me go eat one. Hee. It's pretty famous) then  I think you'll like this too. It has been a long time since I tried the JB one so I cant really compare but currently I'm loving this! Especially when I have craving for soupy food at night! It opens from 11.30am to 2am!! Great for suppers. =)

I love the broth and the sliced abalone most of all!
The standard bowl(S$8.80) comes with prawns, abalone, pork meat balls, lean pork meat, fish ball etc
but I always order with a special request of prawns and abalone only and I always add extra sliced abalone at extra S$3. My order thus came like this; 5 medium size prawns with 7 pieces of sliced abalone. =D

Oh, by the way, there was once when I was served with much lesser ingredients than the above; like maybe 3 prawns with 5 slices of abalone for the exact same order. And I voiced it out to the staff, showing them this picture and they promptly gave me additional prawns and abalones....not sure I'm doing this right...but really mah.......you need to be consistent mah. =P So feel free to save this picture.......

I've tried adding whole abalone(Australian) before at S$10 and it wasnt worth it. It was soOooO tiny and doesnt taste fresh.

炸小鱼条(fish strips) (S$3.20)
We always order this as a side too to complement. Very crispy and fragrant!

I'll say basically the service is pretty good there. Although no air-conditioning, the place is quite cooling with many fans. With our 2 barley drinks, bill is less than S$30. They dont accept credit cards, only cash and nets. It's located at Bt Timah that stretch of foodstalls just opposite Beauty World. Currently some reno going on there as the stretch is kinda covered up. But no worries, the stretch of food stalls are in operation. There's a open space carpark beside it and is the 1st stall when you walk from the carpark.

Movie review: Ghost Child

Movie title: Ghost Child
Ratings: 3/5
Comments: Infront kinda boring and not scary at all. The more scary and thrilling part is during the last 10minutes of the show. =/ But I do kinda like the story.

Olio Dome @ Lido - Great Lamb Racks

Ever since the first time I tried the delicious lamb rack at Jess's ROM lunch, held at Raffles Town Club, The Dining Room, I began to actively seek out lamb racks, which sadly, not many restaurants serve them on their menus. I love these lamb racks from Olio Dome. They have a very crunchy exterior with well-marinated meat well cooked to perfection. Meat is tender and the smell of lamb is very minimal, almost non-existent. It comes with brown sauce together with some signature mint jelly. Even dearie, who is not really into lamb racks, love it. Sometimes, in mid-day, we can be informed that the lamb racks were sold out. The ambiance, however sucks. It's super uncomfortable in the small and cramped cafe. Even so, I highly recommend you to try it even if you have never try lamb racks before. It's also quite 1 of the cheapest lamb racks around, below S$20. You cant find it anywhere else.

The chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice-cream is not really out of the world if you're fussy with your desserts but is a refreshing treat after the mains. And it's so cheap, around S$6 I guess.

别俯 @ China Square - favorite salmon don

Okie....in case you're thinking I have a problem with my taste buds and thus rate every restaurant negative, it's not okie. I merely have high expectations of my food because my mum is a great cook and I'm not too bad either. I'm just picky with food lah. I kinda felt bad that I didnt post some reviews as soon as I should because some of my favorite establishments closed down(surprisingly!) and that really made me very very sad. Not that I feel a positive review from me will make them prosper(I'm not RERG), but it's like, I feel I should commend them! Who knows,,,the power of word of mouth? Sigh............

Here's one recommendation if you love salmon sashimi. For all places, my favorite salmon don is from 别俯 at China Square. It's so cheap, maybe less than S$15 but yet the salmon were all super fresh and plentiful.

They're famous for their ramen. I tried before but maybe I'm just not a ramen person so it did not impress me.

Zero Zero at The Central

Long overdue review; well...it's just not a place which I'm eager to review because it's pretty forgettable

It's good

Basically I love the menu; scallops, foie gras, escargoes, duck breast, duck confit, soft-shell crab etc. However, I felt the execution of the expensive ingredients were not up to the mark. Which is kind of a waste. They were well-presented, in the classy, atas sorta way, but frankly speaking, if they taste mediocre, then how beautifully presented also no use. Nice ambiance  overlooking clarke quay. It was quiet, with only few tables on a weekend. There was a band too, a guy playing keyboard and the female singer. Ok lo, I think I sing better~ Sweet gesture of offering a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. It came with writings in hot fudge, "Happy birthday Ann". For awhile, I thought who is Ann. =.='''' Charges were reasonable for the ingredients but I will not return. Unless they change their chefs.

With 2 wines, bill came up to around S$180 I think, dont quite remember.

Updates on Giant Garbage Fly in food at Antoinette, Mandarin Gallery

'
To be fair to Antoinette, here's an update of their email reply to me 6 days ago, which is a very long and detailed email of apology etc, pertaining to my previous entry: Giant garbage fly in food at Antoinette, Mandarin Gallery.

to me
Dear Fion,

Thank you truly for your email as well as your Facebook message which we read with concern. We sincerely thank you for highlighting your encounter to us and we do hope you are feeling better.

Since reading your feedback, we have wasted no time in investigating the cause of the fly in our dish. It's been identified that the fly came from the salad. As mentioned, the salad was sourced directly from a trusted supplier and are delivered fresh for our use. It's thrice washed and we will serve them after a quick toss with our dressing.

We seek your understanding that this was a one-off incident and nothing of this nature have ever occurred in our restaurant. We note the severity of this incident and thus have written to our supplier warning them of the situation and have requested for a formal investigation on their end as well. Our email to them is attached for your reference.

Addressing your concern on the hygiene and cleanliness of our kitchen, please be assured that we treat cleanliness as our upmost priority and we spare no efforts in ensuring that our kitchens meet all industry standards. Since your feedback, we have conducted a thorough cleaning of our kitchen as well as ensure all fly traps are in optimal working order.

However, we agreed that our restaurant manager, Zul had failed to attend to your feedback in the proper standard of customer service which we require for such a sensitive situation. On behalf of him and our team at Antoinette - Mandarin Gallery, we take this opportunity to convey our sincere regrets and apology to you and your friends for failing to serve you the level of service and food quality that our group practices.

In apology, we would like to undertake the medical costs that you have incurred. We hope you will allow us to do that, notwithstanding if the dish had caused your stomach upset.

Aside to this, as we truly regret spoiling the dining experience you and your friend had encountered at our restaurant, and thus we would like to invite all of you back to our restaurant. Please allow us to host you for a meal which we hope will change your opinion of our restaurant's standard.

We sincerely hope you will accept our sincere efforts in addressing our earlier shortfall. Thru our gestures, we trust you will review your opinion of us. We assure you that we will make the necessary improvements that your feedback have since highlighted.

Fion, we hope to hear your favourable reply on our recommendations. If I could assist you further, please do not hesitate to contact me on my mobile at 9XXX XXXX.

Best regards
Rae

Hi Rae
Thank you for your long email reply. Oh so this email does exists.....I thought it was a joke initially...so did my friend.
Indeed, the whole experience was pretty gruesome as I now have phobia having salad or just anything leafy.....
You probably wont understand unless you've been through the same thing, though I hope not.
While I do understand that such unfortunate incidents do happen....I only wish that my friends and I had been treated with more courtesy and sincerity. Just let me rant abit, despite your very sincere apology. I know Zul might have felt the entire dish had nothing got to do with him since he did not prepare the dish(his expression said it all)....but really....his disconcerned and lackadaisical attitude really makes my blood boil. If only he showed the teeniest bit of empathy, all this wouldnt be necessary.

I appreciate your offer of reimbursing my medical bills and such(transport bills incurring so, I hope), please kindly view the attached.

For your generous hosting, I wish to make the reservation on XXth March and I would gladly prefer it to be at XXX outlet. Just let me tell you why. Besides the stigma, actually frankly speaking, the service of the crew at Mandarin Gallery wasnt really commendable, for a restaurant of your standards. And the premise was actually pretty crowded. In fact, on that day itself, 1 of my girlfriends was given a tiny stool which was more applicable for bags and another girlfriend actually had a chair wayyyy too low for our table. The 2 poor girls suffered backaches for the few hours we were there and I really think they deserve the complimentary treat too. Putting together our revulsion for the place, the furniture, the service crew, I really hope you can grant us our request.

Thanks so much for hearing me out. You dont know how much it matters to me.

Regards,
Fion

And if you're keen to know, my medical bills was only S$30 only lah, very cheap GP. But because I was quite unwell, I cabbed there and back, amounting to maybe S$30+? Peak hour jam on the way back, not my fault okie.
