Just for Laughs

Quote of the day!

Sometimes

Sometimes, I kept telling myself that I'm simply too sensitive, too paranoid. But time and time again, it just prove I'm right.

女人之间的心病, 真的让我觉得很有压力. 不想想太多, 但为什么每次都让我发觉, 让我猜中。 做女人比男人难很多. Sigh.....

I wonder is it a good thing to be that sensitive sometimes. Ignorance may be bliss in a way......

August 2013 Favorites

I love my new background and template......so sweet and demure righttttt~ Totally unlike me. Muahahahaha! And did you notice my new lollipop favicon?? Kekeke! Cuteeeeee righttttt~

Here are my AUG 2013 favorites. Love them~~~ Hee~~

Wet & Wild - Comfort zone Palette

Although words like Browbone/Eyelid/Crease/Definer were embossed on the eyeshadows, I generally wear only 1 or 2 colours alone on lids as the colours are pigmented and pretty heavy.

This palette is love because I love all the colours; namely the nudes, metallic blues and shimmery greens. However, as much as the colours and size is perfect for travel, I doubt it's suitable because the shadows break easily. Bought this online from drugstore.com and it was shipped from U.S. And the top right taupe shade was slightly chipped. However, for the very inexpensive price, it's definitely worth your penny.

Sephora - Happy Birthday Mini Shopping Bag Palette

Love this very much. Very sleek and classy packaging. Colours are pretty pigmented and all are my must-have colours. A birthday gift for Sephora members so it's not for sale. However, you can always sign up as a member with any purchase.

Too Faced - Bronzed & Poreless -Pore Perfecting Bronzer

Finding a perfect bronzer is almost as difficult as finding the perfect shade for your face. The fairer you are, the more difficult it is to find a perfect bronzer which doesnt look too harsh, heavy or "muddy" on you. This, Too Faced - Bronzed & Poreless, is just perfect for my relatively pale skin. It is one which I can swipe without qualms at my jawline because the shade is just right. Quite buildable. And the best thing about this matte bronzer that it is so fine and smooth, true to it's name. Thus, it gives a very natural, smooth finish after being blended well. It doesnt look like you deliberately contour your face but yet still do it's job.

Gorgeous packaging too. Granted that it's not very cheap for a bronzer to me(S$42) but it really suits me very well. And doesnt break me out. Before I purchase this, I did hover between the much raved Benefit's Hoola(kinda too dark for me) and the Sephora bronzer(lightest shade), but Too Faced's texture really win hands down. It's packaging is also much better than Benefit's "cardboard" packaging. For almost the same price, I will definitely choose Too Faced instead.

Yitong (fake)Eye-lashes in H05

I had 3 different friends who asked me were my lashes real when I was wearing this ....which actually means while they enhance the eyes, they still look very natural. =) Pretty comfortable too, although it's not usable for many times; at most twice. I love to wear this for my work or casual days. It's quite difficult to buy this model, Yitong H05, as I ran a few Beaute Springs outlets to stock up a few boxes(10 pairs per box) before this entry. They're only S$13.90 per box.

Sephora Medium Shopping Bag Palette

Love the versatile and wearable colours in this limited edition palette. More pictures and reviews here

Etude House - Line Nuance Duo

Weird that the colour wasnt stated. This consists of a forest green liner on the left and a gorgeous shimmery brown eye shadow on the right. Very pigmented and lasted fairly well with UDPP. For the price, it's definitely worth it.

TheFaceShop - Make Me Star Waterproof gel liner
(black with shimmer and light brown)

I love these 2 eyeliners because they're very easy for application, creamy and very long lasting. Colours are gorgeous, very pigmented. 100% smudge-proof all day with UDPP which is very impressive, as none of my eyeliners(pencil/gel from pot etc) is 100% smudge-proof even with UDPP. To be sharpened. The end comes with a rubber tip for a smudged effect. The width is just right, not too thick nor too thin, although if you want a very precise wing eye, it does needs sharpening as the tip is usually blunt. Alternatively, you can use an eye liner brush to assist for a wing eye. I will probably go back and get some other colours because it's so inexpensive. =)

Would love it if they have matt black and more colours.

Too Faced La Creme Colour Drenching Lip Cream - Naughty Nude.

Previously I mentioned I love this range of lipsticks in May favorites, and the previous colour I like is Spice Spice Baby. This time round, I simply love this nude shade, Naughty Nude which is simply gorgeous, It's moisturizing as well so it hides any lip lines very well. Very pigmented so you dont even need a lip concealer(I have slightly red lips). It is slightly towards an orange-nude than a pink-nude. This suits fair-skinned people very well. If you're crazy with nudes then be sure to try this lip cream out.

Cyber Colours - GEMSTONE Blusher in Orange Coral

This is a lovely blusher in coral with graduation effects so the direction in which you swipe is important. If not then swirl for an even colour. Slight shimmers, not really visible unless you look closely. The accompanied brush is very soft. Love the packaging, very glam and chic, with the huge mirror. Thanks to SASA because I chose this with my Happy Birthday voucher of S$30. =)

Thanks for reading~~~ =D Have a great weekend!!!

China's Green Tea/Black Tea/Milk Tea/Coffee Girls. - Interesting

China’s ‘Green Tea Girls’ – love them or hate them

By  | Singapore Showbiz – Mon, Aug 26, 2013 5:21 PM SGT
Sun Jing Ya is one Chinese blogger and model who has been branded a "Green Tea B*tch" by vicious netizens (Weibo)Sun Jing Ya is one Chinese blogger and model who has been branded a "Green Tea B*tch" by vicious netizens (Wei …
She has the innocent face of an angel, complete with a creamy complexion, beautiful silky long hair and perfect skin. But under that unambitious and pure looking facade lies a climber of the social ladder and a gold digging monster whose main goal is to snag a rich boyfriend or husband.
In China, this woman is known as a 绿茶婊 (lu cha biao) or Green Tea B*tch -- a derogatory term that has been spreading like wildfire on Chinese social networking site Weibo, as well as online news portals.
The term first appeared online when angry netizens read about "sex parties" in Sanya, Hainan -- attended by rich, second-generation young men driving super cars and gold-digging "models".
Shanghai Daily reported allegations about a party where the "models" were paid US$97,000 for participating in three-night sex parties where over 2,000 condoms were used per party.
The male participants? Allegedly members of China's Sports Car Club, super rich young men who own at least a Porsche Carrera 911 and who can fork out an RMB10,000 membership fee a year, or half the annual income of an urban resident in China.
The scandal sparked off the term "Green Tea B*tches", typified by the girl-like, innocent looks favoured by these models.

Contradicting characteristics
According to netizens, additional attributes of these Green Tea ladies are that they work hard to appear like they have virtually no make-up on to convey an "untouched" look and like to pose with sad or vulnerable expressions which encourage protective feelings in unsuspecting men.
"The Green Tea B*tch loves to adopt a wide-eyed look, and will stare at other people, especially men, with doe-eyed expressions. Next to men, she will appear bubbly and lively but if she is with women, she will be sullen and bored," reads a popular "Green Tea List" circulating on Weibo.com.
"She needs to be really artful with her makeup skills, so despite her wearing a lot of foundation, men will somehow say she looks barefaced and natural," states another bizarre "list" that has received over 1,000 likes.
"Pretending to be simple and pretty to the point of hypocrisy," another China netizen said, summing up the Green Tea B*tch.
Beijing-born model Sun Jing Ya, 25, is one of those who have been branded with the term.
Her Baidu profile lists her hobbies as "shopping, listening to music, and travelling to Paris" while her favourite brands are Chanel, Dior and luxury skincare brand La Prairie.
Sun says her friends see her as a "romantic, positive, carefree and active" person.
While her skimpy barely-there outfits and dreamy posts, which muse on the meaning of life may have gotten the men intrigued, Sun has been the target of hate campaigns online. Netizens are saying that she is with a man who has a had a sex change, and most recently, as being HIV-positive.
Chinese micro-blogger Xiao Tuan Zhang is also one of those accused of being a two-faced Green Tea Girl by netizens (Weibo)Chinese micro-blogger Xiao Tuan Zhang is also one of those accused of being a two-faced Green Tea Girl by netizens …
Despite all the vitriol and hate directed towards the Green Tea Girls, China's netizens can't get enough of them -- on Instagram, many have upwards of 60,000 followers who frequently make rude comments on their self-taken sexy-kitten photos but still feverishly follow their lives with morbid interest.
Variants of Green Tea Girls
The term has spawned off a whole new sub-culture of slang used to describe different women.
The "Coffee B*tch" is used to describe high-end office ladies who like to speak in a mix of English and Chinese and love taking photos of themselves enjoying the high life.
The "Black Tea B*tch" on the other hand, is a rougher version of her Green Tea counterparts, applying thick eye make-up, and openly smoking and drinking while wearing revealing clothes.
Finally, the "Milk Tea B*tch" is typified by a woman who talks in a child-like lisp and affects a generous and giving nature to everyone around her with the aim of attracting men who will shower attention and gifts on her.
Do you think these women exist in Singapore's culture or do you know someone like them?

HDB CONSTRUCTION COSTS REVEALED

Finally an article to show the exact actual figures and stats.

http://therealsingapore.com/content/hdb-construction-costs-revealed

HDB Contruction

Construction costs of public housing are deliberately omitted out in every price list of the HDB’s latest Build-to-order (BTO) flats. Like the cooling off day and all other weird PAP practices, the reason is again political. Imagine how ugly the PAP will look if Singaporeans know how much profits a publicly funded statutory board like the HDB is profiting off a 25 year long mortgage debt of ordinary citizens with one of the lowest domestic purchasing power among developed countries [Source]. Then again, just look at how benevolent and generous PAP is with their HDB grants when construction costs are disregarded and the market price benchmark is adopted instead. It is no wonder the PAP can claim that HDB is bleeding so much that they are $1 Billion poorer every year from “helping” Singaporeans [Source].
Leaving the topic of poor domestic purchasing power for another day, the focus is of this article is to provide a close estimate of how much profits HDB is earning per unit flat.
Let’s take the March 2013 BTO exercise as an example:
ProjectFlat TypeSelling Price

4-roomFrom $294,000From $279,000
5-roomFrom $411,000From $401,000
Below are the construction costs of these BTO flats in Singapore dollars using an international project management company Turner and Townsend’s cost estimation [Source]:

2 room HDB flats – 45 sqm – $67,500
3 room HDB flats –  60 sqm – $90,000
4 room HDB flats – 90 sqm – $135,000
5 room HDB flats – 110 sqm – $165,000
With prices less than half of HDB’s selling prices without grants, how much profits do you think the HDB is making even after throwing in a $30,000 grant? Don’t you think Singaporeans could have more access to affordable housing by shutting down the inefficient HDB stat board and pass all construction of “affordable” quality type of housing to the private sector instead?

Sephora Medium Shopping Bag Makeup Palette & Sephora Happy Birthday Mini Shopping Bag Makeup Palette

Lin gave me this super gorgeous palette as my birthday pressie and really, I cant even describe how I felt then! I was really ecstatically happy! Because I loveeeeee palettes! Especially one which has such a sleek and classy packaging! Thanks girl!!!!

http://www.sephora.com/medium-shopping-bag-makeup-palette-P298320

This set contains:
- 33 x eye shadows
- 3 x eyeliners
- 12 x lipsticks/lip glosses
- 4 x blushes
- 2 x bronzers

Size: 0.918 oz; 4.5 x 4.5 x 1" (closed);4.5 x 8 x 8" (expanded)

Exclusive & Limited Edition.

The above 2 words are purposely to irritate you. Lol. Alright I'm just kidding.

At 1st glance, you'll think it consists of glosses, eye shadows and blushers respectively from left to right. However if you look closely, for the eyeshadows palette, the most bottom left 3 are eye liners. Although the 3rd and 2nd bottom of the blushers palette are referred as bronzers in this palette but because they have glitters, I will prefer to use them to lend a bronzy, warm glow to cheeks minimally instead of using them for contouring, which is usually the sole purpose of a bronzer. The eyeshadows are mostly friendly colours like greens, blues, lilacs, peaches and also some of the very wearable neutrals. I'm also very glad most of the blushers are nearer to corals and dusty pinks, which are more "me". The colours of the glosses are very wearable too.

All in all I'm satisfied with the colour combo of this palette; all the colours are extremely wearable, nothing too crazy or difficult to control. The colours are of good quality and pigmentation are okie, though buildable. The size is perfect for travel and fits into a handbag well because it's nothing too big. Maybe just a tad heavier but for the variety of colours, one shouldnt complain. Perhaps the only gripe will be there isnt a matte bronzer for contouring and you need your own brushes.

And guess what?

I was shopping at Sephora on 8th aug(my birthday eve) and only when I was paying at the counter then I realized they have a birthday gift for me(I'm a member) without any purchase. It was a genuine lovely surprise, especially when the gift is very intricate as well!

I really laughed out loud when I received it. It is a mini shopping bag palette, looking exactly the same like what Lin gave me! It contains 4 eye shadows, 2 glosses and 1 blusher. Too bad it doesnt have mini brushes. But well, it's f.o.c! Still a happy girl. Lol.

Love the colours very much, they're very "me". Silver and black for smokey eye, usually for clubbing nights. Subtle brown for casual days. Peachy beige for highlight. Dusty rose blush suits every look.

Other than this palette, I can choose to enjoy double points(1 point is 1 dollar) OR enjoy a 10% off(because I've reached 250points) during the birthday month for members(white card). So I chose the 10% off straight away. The perks of accumulating points is because once you accumulate 250 points, you get to enjoy 10% off your next entire purchase.

I bet you must be thinking how to be a Sephora member? It's so easy!
Simply make any purchase and sign up free at any outlet will do. ALTHOUGH I'm not sure is there a specific amount of points to accumulate before they give the birthday gift for members. =O

Mummy's simple birthday at SGH

So came 6th Aug(just 2 days after admission), it was Mummy's birthday but she was still hospitalized and on the drip, thus she cant eat anything. I cant even buy her a cake. Sigh...... so we bought her 28 stalks of roses(she loves that number, 28->"easy prosper") from the Lembang market, half of each in baby pink and fuchsia pink. They were so lovely. =D The auntie was so nice to give me a pack of "flower food" too(to be dissolved in the water so that the flowers sustain longer). And it's only S$35.

I actually passed the bouquet to mummy to let her see and smell the flowers before I transferred them to the vase we brought. She was so happy. =) They were then put on the table just infront of her bed so that she sees them everyday, hopefully can lift her spirits. Didnt remember to take a picture of the lovely flowers in the vase though. They looked magnificent!

Nothing seems appropriate as a birthday gift for her current situation. Bag? She also cant use it then. Perfume? Zzzz. Whoever wears perfume in a hospital. And I thought a kawaii cushion for her to hug to sleep would be perfect. So we got her 1 lovely rainbow colour cushion with the softest fur imaginable in a shape of a lollipop! Just looking at it makes me happy too! And she hugged it to sleep every night in the hospital. =)  It's from Candylicious from RWS.

Some ideas for you if your loved one (unfortunately) spends her birthday in the hospital. If you're good in art and has enough time, it's great if you can get a big-ass card and gather all family members to write blessings on it. =) Sometimes it's not the value but the heart that counts.

Also, I wish to thank all my colleagues as well as my director for the 2 hampers which they sent to the hospital. And all the blessings in one way or another. Thank you all!!

Ahh...now as I blogged, I realized we had forgotten to pass her the birthday pressie we got for her days later. Sigh....actually she just discharged on sunday 18th AUG(the day before) but just last night 19th AUG, we went SGH A&E again at around 9pm.......she's okay now though....And we only reached home at 3+am today....so damn shag. will blog about her medication condition part 3 soon. Today will be a happy entry.

Movie title: Tales from the Dark 2

Movie title: Tales from the Dark 2
Ratings: 3/5
Comments: Made up of 3 stories. 1st was crap, 2nd was creepy, 3rd was bleh!
So I enjoyed around 1/3 of the show(the 2nd story).

Complications from previous stomach ulcer operation - Hospitalization Stay in SGH - Part 2 / Low-fiber Diet

To continue from, Complications from previous stomach ulcer operation - Hospitalization Stay in SGH - Part 1

The next day, I visited mummy again.....with that tube through her nose and the pumping machine by her bed.........*heart pain*............and her looking so sick.........Sigh..... As I've mentioned previously, the tube through her nose together with the pumping machine is to suck out food from her clogged intestine to relieve the pressure there, and thus relieve her abdominal pain.

However I thought it through....and requested to speak with the local female doctor again....

With knitted brows, I said:

"But this will only be a short-term solution isnt it? I mean, she cant possibly be on the drip forever and dont take any food right? Once she starts consumption, food gets piled up in the intestine again, clogged at that bent, it will cause pain and vomiting again. And she will have to go through this again right?"

The doctor was clearly taken aback by the fact that I do have a brain that analyzes.

Doc: Hmmm...............erm....ya...I do agree with you that this may only be a short-term solution........*look down deep in thought*

Me: So can she do a surgery or something to nip the problem in the bud?

Doc: Generally we do not encourage patients to go through surgery because every surgery has it's risks and they might also cause other complications, like the one we have right now.

Me: So it means if we do not choose to op....we must prepare ourselves to re-visit the hospital again.....in...like....every....6 months? 1 year? Assuming her intestine is being cleared fully by that suction machine now, how long it roughly takes for that intestine to get clog again?

Doc: This is difficult to say as it also depends what food she consumes...like fruits and vegetables which have more fibers might be more difficult to digest and may clog up the intestine faster. Soft foods generally digest better.

Me: Damn! Then why didnt the previous doctor tell us that?? My mum always chose to take more fruits and vege as we've all being educated that they help in digestion!

Doc: No...fibers are difficult to digest. And when such and food piled up at the bent, it also causes pressure. Through time might be dangerous too because the intestines might burst.

Me: What???!!!!!! You mean it may burst anytime when the intestine is full? And it's very dangerous when it bursts???

Doc: Erm yes........

Me: Then we HAVE to do the op no matter we like it or not isnt it? I mean, having the risk of complications IS better than having the risk of a burst intestine RIGHT???

Doc: Erm.................I think this one you need to consult the surgeon, who is working on your mum's case.

Me: Surgeon? I thought you're in charge of my mum's case?

Doc: Yes we are, but a bunch of us are doctors in the medical team. There is another team of surgeons who will discuss about whether your mum need an operation.

Me: (=.=)zzz  Can I speak to the surgeon then?

Doc: Okie, we will arrange for you.

After the doctor left, I turned to look at dearie. I think there's a very "obvious but yet imaginary" 3 lines on my forehead. Like that, (=.=)|||

So doctors like such....patrol wards and patients....asking "how do you feel", arrange patients to be on drips...arrange minimally invasive procedures like insertion of tubes through the nose and such, prescribing antibiotics in drips, painkillers or anti-vomiting jabs etc. Ask them more and they wont know; you need to speak to the surgeon. Surgeons are very busy doing surgeries so they seldom walk about for you to catch them, nor can you request them to call you as easily as doctors do(I do request doctors to call me sometimes when I want to know more about my mum's conditions, since sometimes they're not around. And they called me dutifully).

Anyway, it got me thinking(I always think about many things). Mummy's previous op was 5 years ago. 1 year later, she started having abdominal pains every 3months or so and will usually visit GP. There were 2 A&E occassions where the pain was very bad and during the middle of the night. But she was usually given painkillers and put to rest at the observation ward and eventually sent home when she felt better maybe some 8hours later. So she didnt ward. Then I started to ask mummy about her usual diet, how much she eat etc. She told me she usually have 1 bread in the morning, food like beehoon soup in the afternoon and half portion of rice with other vege for dinner with lots of fruits everyday.

Even if she exclude(or cut down mostly) fruits and veges from her diet.......I think....it's really hard to deduce....what will happen....when and such. But how can 1 avoid eating fruits and vegetables? There will definitely be constipation. Then what can she eat....laxatives? Will it be bad for her stomach or not? Hmm....or maybe she just have to stick to a low-fiber diet...what are the kind of fruits with low fibers leh....I have so many questions running through my head.

Anyway, now I know.....

The saying of Fruits and Vegetables aiding in digestion is clearly a MYTH!

What all the old folks have been saying are clearly misleading.

As I googled "low-fiber diets" for foods which are suitable for mummy to take, many different websites pop up. ALL of them said they are suitable for people who just underwent surgeries and wish to rest their bowels or intestines. They are also great for people with trouble digestion food, suffer stomach cramps etc. But the trouble is, some of the foods they suggest to take and avoid are contradicting each other!

Anyway, since I'm researching for my mummy now(she is discharged already and can eat now), here's a very conservative list which I concluded from those sites on my own, for my own mummy. You may take it for reference if you wish/need, although I may not be completely right.

My suggested Low-fiber Diet food for my mummy

Eat

  • Tender cuts of meat
  • Grounded meat
  • Tofu
  • Fish
  • Carrots (without skin, boiled/stewed till soft)
  • Potatoes (without skin, boiled/stewed till soft)
  • Eggs
  • Canned mushrooms
  • Margarine
  • White bread
  • Marshmallows
  • Tofu
  • Kiwi
  • Papaya
  • Fully-ripened banana
  • Canned peaches
  • Ice-cream
  • Chocolates
  • Clear jellies
  • Mayonnaise
  • Honey

Avoid

  • Tough meats
  • Cereals
  • Raw vegetables
  • Vegetables that have stems, like broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus
  • Milk
  • Whole-wheat bread
  • Brown rice
  • Oats
  • Barley
  • Prune juice
  • All peas, nuts and beans
  • Oranges
  • Corn
  • Onions
  • Raisins
  • Berries
  • Pickles
  • Potato Chips
  • Steamed veges
Also note to drink LOTS of WATER if you're on a low-fiber diet.

Of course this list is also based on my mummy's taste buds. I will specially highlight to her foods which she loves to eat but CANT eat(poor thing...haiz...), and foods which loves to eat and CAN eat. =)

As far as cooking methods are concerned, try using poaching, stewing, braising, steaming INSTEAD OF frying, grilling or baking as the latter methods make the food drier and tougher.

Anyway...back to the topic on whether op or dont op....if it's me, I will prefer to have the op to remove the abdominal adhesion.

That night, the surgeon called me to arrange a family conference at 4pm.

Family conference....it got me so worried......

to be continued..........................
