Review of Forlino - One Fullerton

Angi gave me some welcome vouchers from her credit card application! They're 1-for-1 degustation sets for Forlino and il lido, Sentosa. We tried Forlino(first) since it's definitely more accessible! Appointment booking and payment by HSBC card together with the voucher is required. Just not available on eve of/and PH. I kept having the wrong impression that it's at Fullerton hotel, it's not. It's at One Fullerton. Heard positive reviews of Forlino, which serves Italian comtemporary dining, definitely looked forward to having a great degustation experience!

It's not a huge restaurant and was pretty packed on a sunday. Quite a bad choice actually. There were large groups and families. Very noisy, especially with babies crying and toddlers trotting about on the platform just beside the huge full glass panels overlooking the bay. ZzzZzz........We didnt have the best view, but it's still a nice place with very attentive but not obtrusive services. Pretty natural and warm smiles. =)

 Initially I was pretty skeptical that the degustation menu for the 1-for-1 promotion might not be satisfying. However, I was very very pleased!!! It has my favorite foie gras and beef tenderloin as well our favorite black cod!! Tiramisu is also my favorite italian dessert. =) Erm, just that I'm not all excited for the green pea soup. Give me lobster bisque or crab chowder anytime. Lol. Okie...I know I should be contented. =P

Complimentary bread with cheese

The bread had a wonderful aroma, even before it was served to the table, as if it was freshly baked. The cheese looked very interesting. Both not connoisseurs of cheese, we were kinda surprised we like it very much. They were as fine as snow flakes but yet fully-flavored without being overly salty. We had to ask what is this cheese. The staff are definitely well-trained. They are Grana Padano, something like parma cheese and one of the most popular cheeses from Italy. Aged 24months, they're cut into very large and fine flakes by a technique call Raspadura with a special knife. Very generous serving.

Cream of Green Pea

We're really not into green pea. Green bean soup okie, not green pea soup. Lol. 

I dont like the slightly powdery texture lingering in my throat. Also, it can use more salt and flavour.

Did not finished this, though it wasnt not nice.

Foie Gras with Pear Chutney and Morello Cherry

I know I shouldnt complain about the size as it's a starter. =P Definitely not the best foie gras I had tried, but I'm truly disappointed that it was kinda over done. =( I so missed the melt-in-my-mouth feeling. 

4 Cheeses ‘Bonbon’

Chanterelle Mushrooms, Porcini Mushrooms, Summer Truffle

I liked this dish very much! Because not only it was homemade, intricately designed like a candy, it truly made me appreciate how to eat cheese. In these "bonbons"(meaning candy/sweets in french), there were 4 types of cheeses, namely, soft, semi-soft, hard, and semi-hard. They denotes different amount of moisture in the cheese which in turns affects the texture. Together with the mushrooms, they were a joy, though still slightly saltish for my palate. Love love the Porcini mushrooms.

Black Cod wrapped in Parma Prosciutto, Squid Ink Sauce, Tomato Arancini

Not bad at all! Cod was very fresh and I love parma ham. Went off very well together as cod is usually bland while ham is saltish. Lovely texture. Inside the croquet ball was actually rice. Did not finish the croquet ball though as I was getting pretty full already. The squid ink sauce didnt really leave an impression.

Angus Beef Tenderloin with Marsala Wine Sauce

It's hilarious how dearie and I exchanged a knowing look upon the arrival of our main course. Why, it was so tiny! Lol!! Truth be told, it's the finest beef I've ever eaten. =) I usually have it medium because I cant stand bloodiness. The waitress said chef recommended medium rare for this dish. And surprisingly, I said yes. And I did not regret it. The texture was splendid! Howeverrrrrr, I thought the marsala wine sauce was overly saltish. I had to avoid touching the sauce to truly enjoy my tenderloin. I did not finish my mashed as I was really full, it wasnt really spectacular also anyway, and I still have my Tiramisu!

Classic Tiramisu

I was really full then, to be frank. But I did take a bite. And my whole mouth was filled with dusty tasteless choco powder. (=.=)'''' I took another spoonful, still my mouth was as dry as sawdust. It was this.....cheap dry tasteless sponge cake which was........just not appetizing. I ditched the whole dessert altogether. Dearie finished it all and said there wasnt any rum. It's quite disconcerting to have such a unsatisfying dessert at the end of a degustation experience. Quite disappointing. Hmm really, quite one of worst Tiramisu I've ever tasted.

And BY THE WAY, I just realized they forgot to serve us coffee/tea as per the menu. (=.=)'''''''

Well, all in all, we did enjoyed the degustation menu. With the voucher, S$160+ for 2 is pretty worth it. We will probably return again. But definitely wont order the Tiramisu. Lol. Haha. There are still lots of room for improvement for the food. Service wise, it's pretty good, as compared to the last horrible one at Les Amis. At least someone seated me this time round and folded napkin for me! =P Bon appetit!

We departed San Francisco in the morning for a trip to Yosemite National park, gem of Claifornia's National Park system and UNESCO World Heritage site. 

I've said before. I'm just not a "nature" person. I'm super natural, but just dont like nature. They say opposites attract. Kinda true. =P

I think one day if I see Niagara Falls, I will be very impressed. But this.......hmm.........

So sunny until cannot open my eyes. ZzzZzzz. So there are like many Hollywood stars' names on the ground and such. Somehow, didnt really see anyone I fancy alot alot, like, Katherine Heigl, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta Jones, Nicole Kidman, Anna Faris, Angelina Jolie, Liam Neeson etc. But I do admire Sharon Stone for her poise and extraordinary charm. I've never anyone so beautiful and sexy before, the way she speaks, her voice, her laugh, her gaze. This woman can seduce a saint! Ya I meant like 10 years ago la..... Haha. She was so damn seductive and alluring in "Basic Instinct". She still looks good now too!

Pretty entertaining.....but time simply too rushed before we adjourned to Hollywood, Universal Studios.

Cant you see we're trying to mimic the status behind.......Lol.

Hollywood Universal Studio is soOoOOooo much more fun than Disneyland! Regretted not staying longer as we couldnt, because we had promised to join the coach bus to adjourn to some factory outlets for the very last time of shopping. 

Caught this show there! Managed to grab great seats. 

Very interesting and entertaining, quite exciting as all the explosions are real. 

Can smell smoke. 1st few rows will get wet. 

Then we took the studio tour. This is a must catch! 

Starting it's kinda boring but it got pretty thrilling and eye-opening as it went. 

Please be careful with your bags and clothings as during the tour, some dyed water stained my COACH bag. Couldnt be removed. =(

Virgin Avalon Clubbing Experience - Negative

Last night, a group of us went Avalon, Marina Bay Sands. Initially Kt jio me, saying Wen asked her to jio me. I said okie since I've never been to Avalon before. After awhile, Kt began like wishy-washy about the timing all that and I was like, common, confirm the timing fast! It was already 9+pm. Then she started saying that it was kinda a singles ladies night as she and her 2 gfs are all singles. I was like, Okie, then I dont go lah, so I began to put off the thought and started nua-ing around in the house. Then Kat began, "Nono, you're welcome to join, please dont think too much." (=.=)''''''''''' I mean I'm totally fine if suddenly it's not convenient for me to join. Ultimately, I only saw Wen once and I've never seen Chris before. I'm not sure whether I'll enjoy too. But eventually, I went, just because I was like...being baited back and forth like that and it'll seemed that I'm a overly-sensitive emo-freak if I so-call "think too much" and dont go. (=.=)'''''''''''''

Hmm.....it was my first time actually and I was pretty apprehensive. Even while on the way there, I was like asking my friends how was the music and crowd like etc. Which was like....haha......I'm already going there! ZzzZzz. And it suddenly dawned on me that I wasnt as adventurous as I was used to be. Maybe it was just last night, maybe it was because Avalon is located at Marina Bay Sands, a place which I'm very foreign to. You know, just like Sentosa. Half the time, I'm worried of getting lost inside and never be able to get out. Upon meeting up with all, we then realized it's all our virgin trip to Avalon.

Well well well, so 1 friend told me he dont like it there because they are many Angmos and Indians. Another girl friend told me the crowd are all very ATAS. But being located at MBS, I do think the crowd would be ATAS. Hmm.... I thought the architecture is splendid. Coupled with a floating platform on the river leading up to the club and gorgeous views through the full glass panels building, it lends a classy and opulent edge. It's smaller than I thought though. Sorry, no pictures. Was carrying a pouch and didnt bring camera.

Actually we were being brought in by Wen's guy friend, Al, so I rather feel it's ungrateful to complain about the experience. But hell, think he'll never get to read this. =P First thing, we reached there around 11pm, which by my standards is already not early. But the club was pretty empty and it was playing house music. It was going "thomp thomp" all the way. Kat said the place only opened around 10pm and it only gets more crowded later. Ok. ATAS people like to come late late. Fashionably, ATAS-ly late. Okie I got it. Next time I'll come at 3am because I also ATAS. Wahahahahaha.

The club was so much smaller than I imagined it to be although there were a few storeys, but also nothing much la. We dont have a table because minimum spending for each booth/table is S$750. ATAS mah! Okie, so we were standing beside a booth in a straight line like do-re-mi-fa-so, with our drinks on it(the top of the cushioned-panelled walls), with the servers coming to remind us time to time to HOLD ON TO our glasses for our dear lives so that the glasses wont topple over and drenched whoever's in the booth. Lol. Nice scene actually. =P The music was still very very boring then with a few weird uncle Angmos dancing by themselves in the pretty empty dance floor.

So as the night went on, crowd began pouring in. My friend did not lie to me. There were indeed many many Indians, dark-skinned ones. Before you shout at me for being racist(a reader once commented and scolded me for being racist just because I said I'm more comfortable communicating with Chinese than Indians, like who wouldnt be more comfortable communicating with their own race??), hello, I'm just stating a FACT. If there're many PRCs, I'll definitely say there're many PRCs. If there're many Filipinos, I'll definitely say there're many Filipinos. If there're many Thais, I'll definitely say there're many Thais. If there're many Koreans, I'll definitely say they're many Koreans. If there are many Angmos(Or Caucasians, same to me), I'll definitely say there're many Angmos. If there're many Malays, I'll definitely say there're many Malays. If there're many Japanese, I'll definitely say there're many Japanese. If there're many Papua New Guinea's people(Papuans), I'll definitely say there're many Papuans. But of course I wont mention if there're many Singaporeans, since we are in, common, Singggaaaporeeee. So you get the drift. Like, I wont say, "Oh I went to Sentosa today and there are many Singaporeans." Anyway, it's not. I heard it's full of PRCs and Indians too.

Avalon's crowd were made up of mostly Middle East people(or at least they looked so), Indians, Caucasians and ABCs. I dont know how do you gauge anyone as ATAS, nor do I think I have the right to go judge. But let's just say, somehow I feel they dont belong in the club. The crowd were pretty young, below 30. Some were like as young as 21 who looked so fresh and clean of makeup and looked as if they borrowed their mother's gowns which are much too long for them. I was like........god no....as I looked at a stream of teenagers streaming in at 2am when I was leaving the club. The music was slightly better from 1am to 2am and seriously the DJ suck. As I was saying, there werent alot of people dancing because the music was so boring and finally there was 1 song which was nice. People started "wooing" and dancing, us too. But to my horror, the song was repeated right after it ended. (=.=)'''''''' And thereafter, every song was like played for like 5-10minutes before it was changed. I was appalled! No DJ play their songs like that. Imagine my enthusiasm to dance to every song which was looped like "forever"(by club standards) to me. Sian. Super sian.

Kt was busy talking to Wen intimately and I was so bored. As I was saying, we were standing in a straight line, like do-re-mi-fa-so so it's not possible to chat in a group. After Wen went to the ladies, Al did talk to me, we chat fine but I always try to keep a safe distance between myself and my girlfriends' guy friends. Maybe I'm just being overly uptight and sensitive. But when he invited me to the dance floor to dance with him alone, I was appalled. The way he asked was....hmm....not casual, "Would you dance with me on the dancefloor?" Where got people like this ask one?? Argh! With my knitted brows, I said, "Hmm......I dont think that's appropriate. You came with Wen." And he was like, "So? Why not? You're attached?" Then I said yes. Awkward silence followed. ZzzZzzz. Guys, why just cant be fixed on one? I began to walk to the other side to stand beside Chris, but sadly, dont know why we dont have much to talk. (=.=)''''' I clicked better with Wen, even though it's my 2nd time seeing her. She's straight-forward, funny and outspoken and she did told me earlier on that Al isnt her type simply because he is too young for her. Still, not her cup of tea is one thing. I still prefer to keep a distance.

The girls began buying lots of drinks like champagne la, beer la, after our long island tea, because they believed drinks can make anything seems more interesting and makes one happy. Lol. Errr....to a extent is true lah. Lol! But I wasnt up to drinking last night so I drank very little. So I was as sober and grouchy as a discipline mistress. The girls seemed to look happier after the drinks and guys started chatting them up! Chris was definitely enjoying most as she was so popular with the guys there! 2 chatted her up but couldnt catch her interest......because 1 angmo is still a NTU student. Lol. I dont know about the other guy though. Wen and Kt shortly began to socialize too. =) I left at 2am while they stayed. FYI, the drinks werent cheap too. The long island tea jug was around S$70 but I'm not sure about the other drinks.

I could have ended my Saturday night differently. I have friends at Vivo, friends at Boiler and also Rain and her beau(which she has been wanting me to "access" for her) at Holland V. But by then, it's kinda too late to actually do any shuffling. All because we were out late. And I kinda paiseh to leave so promptly as I was being brought in. If I paid my own cover, I would have just left. And well, also because I was patiently waiting for things to "happen", to get better.

Still, oh well.........yay........I've been to Avalon!! The most "ATAS" club in town!!!

BLEARH!!!! ZzZzZzzzzzzz. I dont know how much is the cover charge. But put it this way, give me S$50 I also wont go. =P

Well, maybe a S$500 lah. I'm ATAS mah.

Step Up Revolution

Comments: I do enjoy the Step Up sequels and this is no exception. Very glad that even though this is already part 3, it was no less entertaining. I'm still very much swooned by all the amazing dancers. Although techniques wise, there's nothing which I haven seen from the last 2 sequels, Step Up Revolution definitely has more thrill and interesting ideas choreographed into their dances and plot. Very very eye-catching and refreshing. Still, a comparison with the previous sequels is inevitable. While the male lead is cute, I still feel the previous male lead looks sexier and dances better. As for the new female lead, very pretty, prettier than the previous female lead. But..... her plastic chin and elephant tights are verrrrrryyy distracting throughout the movie. (=.=)'''''' Everytime the camera is on her face, my gaze was glued to her chin. Definitely not what I prefer. Also, her bulging stomach.......arrggghhhh....her fans are gonna kill me. But really, you need to have a very toned body to dance on screen, else it's very distracting,  Really, I cant concentrate on her dance moves whenever her legs were exposed or when her tummy was bulging. When they're covered up, I do feel she can dance very well. All in all, a very nice movie.

Sasatinnie Peach Facial Mist Toner

Totally loving this! Great on days where skin is dehydrated after whole night in aircon/booze. Especially useful when you have no time to apply lotion(cause stickiness too) as you're rushing out of the house again. Small enough to put in bag and spritz on body/face. Pretty hydrating, leaves skin smooth and supple. Peach fragrance. No sticky film too! What's better? It's only S$10+ from SASA.

It would be great if it comes in a spf50 version too :)
